Our Mission
fneUM promotes education and sustainable development projects in Nicaragua. With a hand-in-hand philosophy, fneUM works with impoverished communities to identify pressing needs, network with local and international organizations, facilitate collaboration, and empower individuals to actively participate within their communities.
Our Purpose
We are a dedicated student organization on campus that focuses on preparing students from the University of Michigan© to travel abroad to Chacraseca, Nicaragua. Throughout the year we educate delegates about social justice and Latin American culture.
Our Values
Our organization is founded upon the values of solidarity, which reflects our goals of developing genuine, deep connections with the communities with whom we work. Solidarity means we work together to serve and to better the community in which we all belong. Instead of imposing our own ideals of how to "help the poor," we instead function and work alongside the Nicaraguan people to advance our shared vision of improved education, health care, and community development.
